ABOUT THE HUI

Hui No'eau Visual Arts Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization located in Upcountry Maui, Hawai‘i. Since 1934, it has provided a space for the community to celebrate the visual arts through classes, exhibitions, events, tours, and educational outreach programs. The Hui relies on charitable contributions to help advance its mission of unlocking creativity through exceptional visual arts education.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

NEW TEACHING ARTISTS

Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center employs artists with proven teaching skills as well as expertise in fine art techniques. Classes may range from two days (weekend intensive) to eight weeks long, meeting one or more times per week. Before applying, we encourage you to browse our website at huinoeau.com to familiarize yourself with our organization, programs, and community. Please be prepared to submit a resume or detailed, written description of your arts & teaching experience, and 3 references. Only qualified candidates that have completed all questions in the following application will be contacted and asked to submit additional materials.

VISITING (OFF-ISLAND) TEACHING ARTISTS

Hui No‘eau accepts proposals from artists living on outer islands, the contiguous United States, and abroad! In most cases, we are able to offer accommodations in our studio cottage for the duration of a proposed workshop (or a bit longer depending on availability). Located on-site, the Hui’s Artist Cottage provides basic, yet comfortable accommodations with a full size bed and queen size pull-out sofa bed. The Hui is located on 25 acres in a rural environment. After business and class hours, artists are the only people on site. As a non-profit, Hui No‘eau is not able to provide on-island transportation or a food stipend. At this time, Artist in Residence programs are offered annually or biennially with significant planning required in advance and a more extensive application process.

DEADLINES

Fall (September – December classes) proposals are due June 1.
Winter & Spring (January – April classes) proposals are due September 1.
Summer (May - August classes) proposals are due February 1.

Proposals are accepted on a rolling deadline. Incomplete forms will NOT be accepted.
